Gaspe Peninsula

GASPÉ

Gaspé Peninsula:
A Legacy of CopperThe Gaspé Peninsula has a long history of copper production, with several historic mines, most notably the Gaspé Copper Mine (“Gaspé Copper”) in Murdochville. Operated by Noranda from 1954 to 1999, the mine produced approximately 141 million tons grading 0.85% copper. Over the past 14 years, ownership of Gaspé Copper has changed hands several times, including Falconbridge, Xstrata, Glencore and currently Osisko Metals, with an estimated 984 million tons of resources still present in the Murdochville camp.
In 2021
The Gaspé Copper Mine has entered a new chapter, as Osisko Metals advances plans to reopen and revitalize this historic operation, bringing renewed economic opportunities and technological innovation to the region.
In 2012,
  • 1844 Resources announced a significant discovery at its Sullipek East project, located 25 km west of Gaspé Copper, with 29 metres grading 0.94% copper at 5.2 metres from surface. This property shares a similar geological environment to Gaspé Copper Mine.
In 2017
  • 1844 Resources updated a Ni 43-101 Resources Inferred Resource calculation bearing 2,24 million tonnes @ 1.09% Cu, 24,400 tonnes in-situ copper
In 2025
